Hmmmm… Stoning for the hols, playing game (Phantom Dust) and reading a book (Idiot’s guide to evolution). Well… basically my brain is rotting, apart from reading the book and the newspaper. Haha…


Speaking of evolution, I came across this interesting question. Form determines function, or function determines form? Here’s what I think: … First, we have to assume a couple of things. Firstly, we have to assume that living things come to this earth/existence with no memory or what so ever on how to use their body parts. Ok??

So, it depends on the time frame we are talking about. At the start of the existence of living organism (once again we presume they are complex with limbs and all instead of simple bacterium or virus), we fall back on my first assumption: That they came to this world with no idea on how to use their limbs and all. Thus, in this view, Form determines function. Since they have the physical limb before they learn how to use them.

As the time pass, this is when evolution comes into play. We assume there really is evolution of species as a whole. Thus, as time goes pass, the physical limbs are likely to change to adapt to the environment for better/more efficient usage/mobility. In this case, we assume that the environment is constant and do no change. Thus, in this view relative to evolution as time pass. Hence, if the yardstick used is evolution of the species, physically and mentally, its function determines form.


Hmmm… This is my view and thought… Wonder if there’s anyone out there who disagree or can give more evidence.
